Election Year In Ontario 2011

The Northern Ontario Heritage Party will develop policies under the umbrella of the Party Principles. It would be fundamentally irresponsible to adopt ideas and suggestions without the ability to quantify them in a meaningful way. Make no mistake about it! Our principles are clear...The Northern Ontario Heritage Party wants a better Deal with the province of Ontario so that Northerners can control their own destiny.

Principle No 1.

The Northern Ontario Heritage Party supports increasing the number of Northern Ontario ridings in the Legislature of Ontario. Such increase in representation would be a formula based on population, physical size, and access.

Principle No. 2.

The Northern Ontario Heritage Party supports a New Northern Ontario Member of the Ontario Legislature elected by and representing First Nation communities in Northern Ontario.

Principle No 3

The Northern Ontario Heritage Party supports the formation of a Northern Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources with ministry offices being located centrally in Northern Ontario. Such a ministry would assume all responsibility and planning associated with the current Ministry of Natural Resources.

Principle No 4.

The Northern Ontario Heritage Party supports the formation of a provincially recognized "Northern Ontario" Caucus whose mandate is to support the interests of Northern Ontario Residents. The Northern Ontario Caucus would have the right to veto any proposed legislation that does not support the interests of Northern Ontario Residents.

Principle No. 5.

The Northern Ontario Heritage Party supports the concept of a “Northern Heritage” and in doing so supports the free, unlimited use and access of all Northern Ontario Crown lands and waterways to all Northern Residents.

Principle No. 6.

The Northern Ontario Heritage Party supports the long awaited and much needed establishment a Ministry of Northern Ontario Economic Development with a ministry headquarters centrally located in Northern Ontario for accessibility to Northern Ontarians. Such a ministry would have the mandate to promote all aspects of economic development by coordinating with other key ministries to ensure that the intended economic benefits of provincial policy do indeed translate to benefits and action on behalf of Northern residents and communities.
